Financial sponsorship is provided by both the UNSW Student Guild and the Post Graduate Board. House at Pooh Corner was established in July 1969 by the UNSW Student's Guild in response to the growing need for accessible, affordable, quality childcare on campus. This remains our primary purpose. The centre caters to 72 children each day aged from 6 weeks to 5 years. Children are separated into age groups as follows:
|
Nursery (under 2) |
15 children |
|
2-3 years |
13 children |
|
3-4 years |
24 children |
|
4-5 years |
20 children |
The centre's hours are 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday. Parents needing to leave their child before 8.30am, or collect the child after 5.30pm, go on the Early or Late List by arrangement with the Director. This is to ensure that there are enough staff on duty early and late in the day. The centre is open 48 weeks each year. We close for 4 weeks over the Christmas/New Year period
An educational programme, as well as childcare, is provided. We keep our programming as flexible as possible in order to meet individual needs as well as those of the group. There is a wide and varied selection of activities and experiences planned by the staff. These include art, music, language, literature and nature. The role of caregivers is not that of a substitute parent but that of another adult who cares for the child's well being and development.
First priority goes to children of students at UNSW, then staff and then to the general community.
For the safety and well being of those enrolled, any child not age appropriately immunised will not be accepted.

All centre staff are employed by, and are accountable to, the House at Pooh Corner Board of Management. The Board meets at the centre each month. Membership of the Board is as follows:
